Exemplary Life: Is it worth Living?

By Atanda Anuoluwapo  200 Level, Mass Communication Atanda Anuoluwapo  Photo Credit: Atanda Anuoluwapo  I was given an assignment during the Christmas holidays. We were told to write an article on any individual whose name was dedicated to a building in honour of their tremendous contribution to the growth and development of the University I attend.  While reading the biography of one of the individuals who had deeply caught my attention, which happened to be the visioner of the University, it got me thinking that a person could work so tirelessly in service, being committed to whatever he found his hands doing and made great impact in the lives of people that when he died, people could still remember him for the works he did.  This led me into retrospection about my life. Can my life be an example for others to follow? I realized all those little things - those gestures, that expression of care- count! There's a common saying, "People are looking at you". This is the ac

Exclusive: Confession of McU Law student

By our Correspondent,  Beloved. Photo Credit: Google/Channels TV We are all studying Law at McPherson University's College of Law for various reasons, and I enjoyed and respected all the reasons tabled by few of my colleagues. Some of us are studying law to continue the legacies of our parents and grandparents who are successful law attorneys in Ibadan, Oyo State; some are studying law to ultimately wear a ‘silk wig’ or become a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) 10 years after graduation; some for the prestige and respect that the profession commands; some for the purpose of fighting for common man like Barrister Ebun Adegoruwa and Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.  I just want to study Law to sue Segun who broke my heart on my 19th birthday! Do I have rights under the Law to sue a young man who promised me love and bright future? Segun was my first love. When he approached me last summer, it was a dream come through. I had a crush on him right from our days at

Students, Stop Giving Excuses!

Image
By Atanda Anuoluwapo 200 level Mass Communication One thing I have tried to stop doing is giving excuses. I have realized over time I give excuses for any little thing. When I justify myself, it makes me feel good. However, it got to a point where I had to stop. My attitude was telling people I wasn't a serious person. Steadily, I started changing. No matter how busy I am, I try as much as possible to meet up with a given task. But this day, it has been quite tough. Due to my busy schedule in school. I've been giving my coach excuses on why I haven't written an article for the week. Nonetheless, they were a bit valid but not acceptable. Photo Credit: Google Therefore, I had to sit down and call myself to order. Knowing fully well that if I keep up giving all these excuses, I will end up achieving nothing. With all sincerity, most of us found. ourselves in this battle of excuses. We keep apologizing over and over again for flimsy excuses we make up just to favor ourselves.

Embracing Body Positivity: A Journey to Self-Love and Empowerment

Image
By Precious Amaliri  100 Level, Mass Communication Photo Credit: Google Amidst societal pressures and beauty ideals, the body positivity movement has risen as a potent force, disrupting conventional beauty notions and encouraging self-affirmation. This uprising is gaining traction, motivating individuals to accept their bodies irrespective of size, shape, or appearance. At its core, body positivity strives to cultivate a culture that honors diversity and empowers individuals to love themselves unequivocally. The roots of the body positivity movement can be traced back to a growing dissatisfaction with the narrow definitions of beauty perpetuated by the media and fashion industry. For far too long, unrealistic ideals have been propagated, leading to a pervasive sense of inadequacy among individuals who don’t fit the conventional mold.  However, as the movement gains traction, there is a shifting narrative—one that encourages acceptance, self-love, and a celebration of uniqueness.
