Some students of the Department of Computer Science, College of Computing, McPherson University, Ogun State, Nigeria, have expressed their decisions to shun this year’s Valentine Day celebration!

Valentine’s day is celebrated globally every February 14 and is popularly referred to as the lover’s day!

The trio of Oladapo Olamiji, Muritala Oladele Sultan and Charles Aludo (Computer Science students) told our correspondent earlier today that they would not be celebrating ‘Valentine’, which is less than a month.

Charles specifically said his desire to hit 5.00 CGPA in the 2023/24 first semester examination is more important than anything at the moment.

The other two students who shared similar sentiments also stressed that examinations would be rife during the period, and it would be unwise to have divided attention.

Similarly, a 300 level of the same College, Okereke Emmanuel, was also strongly against Valentine's Day celebration.

Meanwhile, some students of Accounting and Finance Department are viewing Valentine’s Day celebration differently. They are obviously gearing up for the D-day.

Some Accounting student converged in front of the Automatic Teller Machine [ATM] near the University Bakery after their lecture around 12 noon.

One of the students was heard shouting repeatedly, “Seun, ...please come and be my val!”

All the Accounting students present laughed heartily at the drama that unfolded and it was obvious they were all in support of the Valentine’s Day.

However, it was obvious the Department would not bend her uniform rule of blue and white if the students indeed celebrate ‘val’.

Reacting to val day celebration, Mass Communication Student Association (MACSA)’s Treasurer, Miss. Esther Agboola, said she has plans for valentine.

Inioluwa Longe, 300 level Compute Science also said he would mark the day with exchange of gifts.

“Valentine is beautiful but alot of students don’t understanding the concept. It is not about bad things”, Longe said excitedly.
