For daring to write for a national daily, The Communicator's Group Sports Editor, Master Vince Somade-Vincent, has been receiving massive commendations for his published piece which appeared in Daily Trust newspaper today, Monday, 5th February, 2024.

Somade-Vincent's piece was titled: Three Ways Super Eagles Can Ensure Victory Over South Africa.

Daily Trust, where his piece was published, is one of Nigeria’s top 7 most reputable newspapers of trust and record.

The Ag. Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Rasheed Buhari, specially commended Mr. Somade-Vincent for the feat.

He described the young writer as an inspiration, exceptional and focused student-writer.

“His debut for a national daily with a very high standard is noteworthy. We are very proud of him. Meanwhile, our grand expectation is that Mass Communication students at this great University would not only register their presence in local national newspapers but would also compete in the international media space”, Dr. Buhari added.

The Communicator’s Editor-at-large, Mr. Ayodeji Adesina, also expressed great delight at the published piece.

According to him, “Somade-Vincent has made a defining statement with his debut for a national daily in Nigeria”.

“Very soon, he would surely progress steadily to the international scene. I do hope Somade-Vincent and other like minds among the students of Mass Communication would feature for great global media like Time magazine, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the US Today. They [students] only need to keep working harder and the lecturers must keep encouraging them to maximize the available platforms inorder to shape their reportorial skills.

Prior to his debut in Daily Trust newspaper, Somade-Vincent has registered his imprint on Campus as one of the most consistent student writers and editors.

He won the 2023 MACSA's Award for the most Promising Editor-of-the-year and also won the 2023 SOMSSA Award for the Editor-of-the-Year. He is the first male student to win the prize since 2016.

He has served as Associate Editor of The Communicator daily and was appointed the substantive editor, The Communicator on Sunday on January 1, 2024.

Interestingly, Master Somade-Vincent still doubles as the Group Sports Editor of the Communicator daily. He is the first 300 level student of Mass Communication to publish in national daily in 2023/2024 Academic session.

One of the notable excerpts from his published piece is: “The Super Eagles of Nigeria face South Africa in a much-awaited AFCON 2023 semi-final clash on Wednesday. It is a match between two nations that have become used to playing each other, although the South Africans have only won once. The latest face-off is taking place on the biggest stage yet, and I examine how the Super Eagles can match into the final of the tournament”.
