Dr. Kenny Olubanjo, a seasoned academic and expert in entrepreneurship, delivered a compelling presentation at McPherson University, addressing the possibilities and potentials of entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The event took place on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the University's Senate building.

Dr. Olubanjo began by highlighting the critical role entrepreneurship plays in driving economic growth, job creation, and fostering innovation. He emphasized the relevance of entrepreneurship in Nigeria's dynamic business environment, considering the nation's rapidly growing population.

Addressing the rising concerns of unemployment, Dr. Olubanjo referred to reports from the Development Policy Research Unit and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, projecting an alarming unemployment rate. He underscored the importance of effective teaching, research, and the promotion of entrepreneurial education in addressing the challenge.

The presentation delved into the entrepreneurial landscape in Nigeria, citing the National University Commission's directive for compulsory entrepreneurship education. Dr. Olubanjo explained how this directive aims to empower students, create employment opportunities, diversify businesses, and boost individual confidence.

The audience received an insightful exploration of entrepreneurship's diverse definitions, ranging from mobilizing resources to meet market demands to creating new enterprises. Dr. Olubanjo stressed that entrepreneurship involves identifying gaps, bringing resources together innovatively, and bearing associated risks.

The presentation acknowledged Nigeria's rich entrepreneurial history and the challenges it faces, including infrastructural deficiencies and regulatory complexities. Despite these challenges, Dr. Olubanjo highlighted the resilience of Nigerian entrepreneurs and the government's initiatives to support them.

Dr. Olubanjo discussed areas of possibilities and potentials, categorizing them into emerging industries, government initiatives, gender dynamics, family and community support, innovation and technology, and sustainable environments. He also touched on global perspectives, emphasizing international trade and diaspora entrepreneurship.

The dynamic state of entrepreneurship in Nigeria was explored, covering technology and innovation, youth entrepreneurship, a supportive ecosystem, and government initiatives. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report and data from SMEDAN highlighted Nigeria's high entrepreneurial activity.

In addressing the challenges and leveraging opportunities, Dr. Olubanjo proposed recommendations, including integrating entrepreneurship education, policy reforms, improved access to finance, infrastructural development, technology and innovation hubs, empowerment programs for women and youth, public-private partnerships, market access and export promotion, ethical business practices, and support for research and development.

The presentation concluded with a call for commitment from tertiary institutions to promote entrepreneurship, motivating undergraduates to become employers of labor. Dr. Kenny Olubanjo's comprehensive exploration left the audience with a profound understanding of entrepreneurship's vital role in shaping Nigeria's economic future.
